Greetings DA friends!
A lot has been going on lately! I just spent two months in Australia where I collected hundreds of huntsman spiders and began working on some preliminary behavior experiments. During my last few days in Aus I was notified that I was awarded funding through the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program. This is a huge honor and a huge relief since now I am guaranteed three years of full support for my PhD research at Cornell.
In the midst of all of this excitement I have also found time to begin working on a new blog. The general theme of the blog is science and art but it focuses primarily on arthropods and their behavior. Each entry will include a new insect drawing and a brief description of what I find to be the coolest aspect of that insect's biology.
I have one post up already discussing the coevolution of an orchid and its pollinator that is accompanied by a digital painting of Xanthopan morganii and Angraecum sesquipedale.
Please check it out and be sure to give me feedback!

And for those of you that aren't already familiar with this blog, please check out Art Evolved: Life's Time Capsule as well.

This is a fantastic blog about paleontology and art I am an official contributor to Art Evolved now but I haven't found the inspiration to post yet. I am planning on doing a burgess shale inspired drawing in the next few weeks so keep an eye on both blogs since it may show up soon!
