Sustainable Development

Here we have the product of an entire semester's worth of work. I spent approximately a total of 100 hours drawing each individual cluster of animals, and then god knows how long it took me to mount everything. Everything was drawn on plain drawing paper with prismacolors and then mounted on a 8'x4' sheet of foamcore board. That's right, this thing is 8 freakin feet tall.

This was done for my independent art study I did this fall semester. I wanted to incorporate biology into a work of art (I'm sure this doesn't surprise anyone). Since I was taking general ecology this semester the idea of biomes, habitats, ecosystems, and of the course the effects of humans on said natural structures, all seemed like good ideas to work with. There's a lot of significance behind the color choices, the animals/structures/plants found in each color section, and the shape and arrangement of all the drawings, but I don't feel like copying and pasting my whole artist statement, so I'll just leave the interpretation up to the viewer
